Admitting she was drunk at the time, the 40-year-old diva went on to jokingly say that 'Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire' director Lee Daniels is a 'bad influence'.
Mariah Carey told reporters at 2010 People's Choice Awards on January 6 that she was indeed drunk while giving her acceptance speech at Palm Springs International Film Festival. The diva admitted that she and "
Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire" director Lee Daniels had "splashes of champagne" before going up on the stage.
"We'd been sitting there, celebrating this whole time and having little splashes, and I hadn't eaten," Carey confessed, adding they didn't want to be late and rushed into the event afterwards. She added that beside celebrating the success of their film, they had the champagne because she hadn't met Daniels in a while. She, in addition, jokingly said that Daniels is a "bad influence."
On the occasion, the 40-year-old songstress also gave a few words to anyone raising their eyebrows on her little incident. "If people don't understand me and they just think I'm this girl that stands by a microphone and sings 'Hero' then they're definitely not gonna get me," she said. "But if people knew me they'd understand and have a sense of humor. And basically that's what gets me through life."
Mariah Carey received an award for Breakthrough Performance for her performance in "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" on January 5 at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival. Presenting her award was none other than her drinking buddy and "Precious" director Lee Daniels. Upon receiving her award, she puzzled the audience by once she was on stage.
