Before beating Rihanna just hours before their scheduled performances at 2009 Grammys on February 8, Chris Brown was actually involved in two previous domestic disputes with her. According to the 20-year-old singer's probation review released on Tuesday, August 25, the incidents were "related to domestic violence".
The first incident happened in Europe in November 2008, during when both of them engaged in a "verbal dispute". The "Run It" hitmaker shoved the Barbadian songstress onto a wall after she slapped him. Then, the second incident occurred in Rihanna's native Barbados just three weeks before the February incident. Both of them had an argument when riding on a car. As he couldn't control his emotion, Chris got out from the car and broke both the driver and front passenger side's windows. At that time, no one was injured and the incident was not reported to authorities.
On June 22, Chris Brown pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault against Rihanna. As a part of plea bargain, he received 5 years probation and had to spend 180 days of community service in Virginia.
On August 25, Chris was officially sentenced to begin for his probation with personal supervision by the chief of police in his hometown Richmond, Virginia. Beside being ordered to come to court every three months during his probation, he has been asked not to contact Rihanna for the next five years. Additionally, Chris has to stay 200 yards from her, unless both of them are at an entertainment-related event, in which he must stay 10 yards away.
Last month, in a short video, Chris apologized for the incident. "I have told Rihanna countless times, and I am telling you today, that I am truly sorry and that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better," he stated.
