Superstar Madonna finally wins adoption appeal for 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James. Malawi's High Court has approved the pop icon's petition on Friday, June 12, despite the fact that she hadn't fulfilled 18-month residency requirement of the country. "Madonna has shown that she is bold and compassionate enough to come forward to adopt Chifundo James," chief justice Lovemore Munlo says.
Expressing her happiness, the 50-year-old songstress states, "I am ecstatic." Then, she continues, "My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her." However, Madonna hasn't become Mercy's mom just yet because Malawian officials will be checking in with the kid for one year before everything is made official.
Chifundo "Mercy" James is the second Malawian child who is adopted by Madonna. She has adopted David Banda in 2006. Three months ago, Malawian government forbade the "Miles Away" hitmaker to adopt another kid from the country because she has been dating many guys.
"Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes," a senior official from Malawi's Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Development previously said of the singer. "Her relationships may negatively affect the adoption of Mercy".
