is the new "American Idol". The 23-year-old singer has been revealed as the reality TV singing competition's season 8 winner, besting fellow contestant
Adam Lambert, who is everyone's favorite and was predicted to take the title.
Claimed as a total surprise, Kris' winning is widely believed to have been boasted by the expulsion of
Danny Gokey two weeks ago. Besides, his conventional and down-to-earth personality might also take part in provoking people to vote for him.
"It feels good, man, but Adam deserves this ... I'm sorry. I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy. Thank you so much," Kris said upon receiving the title in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, May 20. He then cried on his wife's shoulder.
Kris Allen, who is a Conway, Arkansas, native, auditioned for the eighth season of "American Idol" in Louisville, Kentucky, with his brother Daniel, who didn't make it to Hollywood. After stiff competition with many other contestants, he finally made it to the show's finale, which was held on Tuesday, May 19.
Now that he has earned the "American Idol" predicate, Kris will get a recording contract. Adam, who is the runner-up, will as well put out an album.
