Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Raise 10,000 Dollars for Charity Previously being reported that their love relationship is on the rock doesn't make Nicole Richie and her beau Joel Madden turned down their plan to raise money to fund the establishment of children's playground. Of the calculated cost $35,000 (GBP18,900) for the playground, the pair have been raising $10,000 (GBP5,400) in just a week .

Almost 2,000 fans and parents have joined the campaign titled "Text CHILD to 90999." Each of them donated $5 (GBP2.70) via mobile phone's 1,825 text messages that came from 48 states of the U.S.

Nicole and Joel launched the campaign on September 15 this year as part of their Richie-Madden Children's Foundation. "There are so many children here who need a place to play. We're excited to help them," she stated during the launching.

The money, which is raised from the campaign, will be used to help fund a playground for children at the Beyond Shelter in Los Angeles. Joel stated, "we think there should be a playground on the concrete slab you're sitting on." He even has promised to play with the kids on the playground after it is built, saying "it's bigger than building a playground, but this is an exciting start. And I'll come play on it."

In other news, Joel reportedly celebrated Nicole's 27th birthday on September 21. The Good Charlotte's member surprised her with a celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
