MTV has been rolling out nominations for various categories in recent weeks. And pop superstar Britney Spears are among the nominees to be picking up the awards. The 26-year-old singer has been landing three nominations, all for her video "Piece of Me".
Britney has been nominated for "Best Female Video" and "Best Pop Video". And the "Gimme More" singer has recently been announced as one of five candidates in the running for the "Video of the Year" honor. For "Video of the Year", she'll compete against Chris Brown's "Forever", Jonas Brothers' "Burnin' Up", The Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" and new comer The Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go". She's not the only artist who shows her reign at the awards because Brown has three nominations as well.
Britney will also face off against Katy Perry, Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, and Mariah Carey for "Best Female Video". And for "Best Pop Video", the ex-wife of Kevin Federline will compete with Danity Kane, Jonas Brothers, Panic! At the Disco and Tokio Hotel.
Aside from landing three nominations, the singer is also set to appear in a TV promo for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Britney shot the spot at the Paramount lot in Hollywood on August 5, along with this year's VMA host, Russell Brand, FNMTV host and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, and LL Cool J.
In related news, the troubled singer, who recently appeared in two episodes of "How I Met Your Mother", has reportedly been offered to star in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film. Britney will play the role of lesbian dancer Varla in the film, according to The Telegraph. "Quentin is convinced that Britney will be brilliant. She's delighted. She thinks it could turn her career around," a source told the publication.
"It is perfect Tarantino material. He wanted Britney first. She's playing the most important character," the source added. If Britney accepts the role, her character reportedly will kill another character with her bare hands. She is also said to have a sex scene with another character in the flick.
