It was such a big success for Rihanna that she won big at 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards (MMVAs) in Toronto on Sunday, June 15. The R&B queen won Best International Video award for "Don't Stop the Music" and picked up the MuchMusic.com Most Watched Video award for her hit "Umbrella." It was American pop girl group Girlicious, who handed out the first award of the night to her.
Thousands people surrounded the MMVAs on the corner of Queen and John, standing in the rain for hours to watch their favorite stars, including Rihanna, illScarlett, Hedley and Girlicious, who headline the top pop acts and presenters at the awards. As for Hedley, the band won the MuchLOUD Best Rock Video for their hit "She's So Sorry", which is directed by Kevin De Freitas. Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne took home the People's Choice Favorite Canadian Artist award for her song "When You're Gone".
MuchMusic VJ Matte Babel said in a statement days before MMVAs, "We have quite a few big acts this year. It could be one of the most memorable shows." Moreover, he commented on Rihanna, "Rihanna is a huge star and has been touring with Kanye West, one of the greatest performers in the world. I'm sure she's picked up a thing or two from him and will put on a great show."
