Happy news comes from country music star Sara Evans and her football hero Jay Barker that they are officially husband and wife. The couple got married on Saturday evening, June 14 in an outdoor ceremony at a farm near Sara's home in Franklin, Tennesee, People magazine reported exclusively.
Sara wore an ivory silk taffeta Vera Wang gown with a halter neck, while Jay, who is the former University of Alabama quarterback, wore a Dolce and Gabbana suit. The two exchanged vows in front of more than 130 guests. The singer was escorted down the aisle by her 8-year-old son Avery, preceded by her two daughters, Olivia, 5, and Audrey, 3. During the ceremony, Sara's children, as well as Jay's from his previous marriage, sat on quilts, serving as attendants.
The ceremony's theme was black-and-white and guests were requested to wear black. It was also accented with yellow roses. The decor was sophisticated, given a down-home twist with a menu catered by Constant Craving featuring Southern fried chicken, country-style pole beans, biscuits and macaroni and cheese. "It was really very elegant, but Sara wanted it to feel like you were at her house," a friend and wedding planner Traci Phillips of The Perfect Party explained.
It's the second marriage for both Sara and Jay, who were engaged in March. The singer was previously married to a politician, Craig Schelske, from 1993 to 2007. As for Jay, who is the host of a morning sports radio show in Alabama, he ended his previous 14-year marriage in the summer of 2007. The two were introduced to each other last fall by their minister, Joe Beam, who performed their nuptials.
