Ellen DeGeneres to Marry Portia de Rossi

Ellen DeGeneres has come to announcement that she and her longtime lesbian lover, actress Portia de Rossi, will tie the knot. The stand-up comedian revealed her wedding plan to audiences of her "Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Thursday, May 15.

One of the audience told TMZ that Ellen surprised the crowd over her nuptials plan right after she stated that California Supreme Court finally allowed same-sex couples to get married. Hearing the controversial news, the audience expressed their uncontrolled emotions, giving standing ovation for the couple. Portia was in the crowd at that time.

California Supreme Court ruling has brought joy to gay rights activists and people who have been contemplating gay marriage for long time, including Ellen. The ruling said all California couples had a basic civil right to wed without considering their sexual orientation. California Chief Justice Ron George commented, "Limiting the designation of marriage to a union 'between a man and a woman' is unconstitutional and must be stricken from the statute." Before California, Massachusetts was the only state which allowed gay marriage.
