A sex tape shows a man resembling , the guitar legend who died in 1970, has just been released for sale on the Internet on Tuesday, April 29. The alleged Jimi was shown naked in the film, wearing a bandanna over his Afro and having sex with two brunettes in a fairly dark bedroom. His full face appeared on screen for only a few seconds, with his eyes closed. The 11-minutes footage was packaged in a 45-minutes DVD titled "Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape" and distributed by Vivid Entertainment.

Vivid revealed in a press release that Jimi's footage was shot approximately 40 years ago in a hotel room and was unearthed by a rock 'n' roll memorabilia collector. Concerning this, Vivid co-chairman, Steven Hirsch commented "This new movie shows that Jimi Hendrix could have been as great a porn star as he was a rock star." Furthermore, he added that the sex tape DVD, which was sold for $39.95 was available at jimihendrixsextape.com and will be put in stores starting next Tuesday, May 6.

However, after watching the sex tape, Kathy Etchingham, Jimi's girlfriend during the 1960s told the New York Times that the man in the film wasn't his lover who died at age 27. She revealed, "It is not him. His face is too broad and nose and nostrils too wide for Jimi."

Vivid, which also distributed and rocker 's sex tape, obtained the tape from an individual distributor, Howie Klein. According to Steven, Howie approached Vivid after purchasing it from the collector who found it. In addition, Steven also told Reuters that Vivid's lawyers hired investigators to track the man who insisted to have shot the footage in 8-millimeter color film. Vivid then signed a deal with him for rights to distribute it commercially. "That's why we believe in fact that we own the copyright," Steven revealed.
