Dita Von Teese has reportedly clashed with animal right organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The burlesque star, who formerly supported PETA for their animal right campaign, has been allegedly accused to be a hypocrite by the organization. Reports claimed that she has been criticized by PETA for continuing to eat meat after she confessed her love for controversial French delicacy foie gras.
Reportedly, following her confession, PETA revealed their disappointment towards the exotic dancer. In the statement, the organization noted that they know about her not being a vegetarian. The organization's media director Michael McGraw told press release, "We were aware that Dita is not a vegetarian before working with her, and she has brought much needed attention to an important PETA campaign promoting spaying and neutering of companion animals."
McGraw further explained much about foie grass and reasons for not eating it. In his explanation he revealed, "But foie gras entails some of the cruelest factory farming abuses, which is why most people choose not to eat it. Foie gras is made from the grotesquely enlarged livers of ducks and geese who are cruelly force-fed by pipes that are shoved down their throats every day, pumping up to four pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs." He even suggested Dita to stop eating it saying, "We hope that Dita does the right thing and eliminates foie gras from her diet."
Previously, Dita has reportedly told The New York Times about her favorite foods. She admitted that one of her favorite foods is the engorged liver of ducks and geese. She told the newspaper, "My guilty pleasure is eating foie gras in Paris. I feel guilty and horrible about it."
Earlier, Dita has campaigned on animal rights charity held by PETA. She has stripped for the charity and appeared in PETA's advertisement. There are others who has also joined animal rights campaign, including Eva Mendes, Alicia Silverstone and Jenna Jameson.
