Oxfam Passes the Torch to Annie Lennox Annie Lennox is to become a Global Ambassador for Oxfam. The Scottish singer has been an active supporter of global relief agency Oxfam for years, and is now set to become even more involved with the charity.

Annie, 52, who has had worldwide success as both a solo artist and lead singer of rock duo Eurythmics, will help Oxfam increase awareness of global poverty. Earlier this year, the award-winning star joined thousands of protestors taking to the streets in a demonstration backing the World Can't Wait anti-third world poverty campaign ahead of the G8 summit.

Annie supported Oxfam's South African HIV appeal last year and in 2005, was a speaker at an Oxfam meeting during the Gleneagles G8 summit.The singer joins a host of other celebrities who have been appointed Global Ambassadors for the charity. Actor was appointed to the role in 2005, while Oscar-winning actress has been an Oxfam ambassador for years.
